Carragher wants Kalvin Phillips at Anfield this season

Manchester City

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher wants English midfielder Kalvin Phillips at Anfield this season, as he compares him with Paul Scholes.

Reds are back in the hunt for signing a new defensive midfielder after both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia opted to go to Chelsea this summer. They’re re-planing their strategy once again for rest of the transfer window.

According to The DailyMail, Liverpool are reconsidering previous targets such as Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips. Reds have been earlier linked with Three Lions International but they didn’t show serious interest in him back then.

However, Now Phillips is reconsidered one of the main names in Liverpool’s transfer list. He has been struggling at the Ethihad after joining them from Leeds United last year.

Phillips was one of the promising players under Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road. During his prolific run, Jamie Carragher compared him with United legend Paul Scholes.

Carragher discussed about his exploits:-

“If you are coming up against Leeds United, who are brilliant as a team, not just Kalvin Phillips, he has got to be a major part of your team talk, exactly the way Paul Scholes was for Manchester United.

“You had to stop Paul Scholes pulling strings in midfield and this lad, that was one of the best performances I have seen from an individual this season, and if you come up against him, you have got to stop him.”

This was the main reason why Man City paid £45 million for Phillips last summer. The 27-year-old could be the right man for Klopp’s midfield this season.
