Former Chelsea an Cesc Fabregas wanted Monaco midfielder to join Liverpool last year. However, Fofana is now in the target list of Liverpool for their midfield. Though, Arsenal were also linked heavily with him but nothing proceeded further. The Merseyside club spent big money this summer in their midfield overhauling bringing in four midfielders. Now, it seems Liverpool are eyeing on a new target in the winter transfer. The midfielder will enter the last six months of his contract in January. Although, there are chances that Monaco will comfortably extend his contract for another year. 90min claim this week that Liverpool are among the clubs who have Fofana on their radar.

“When I came (Monaco), Thierry (Henry) and Vadim (Vasilyev) also asked me to help grow the young people. It was an important point. Today, I feel like I have won the respect and sympathy of this younger generation.

I hope I have helped. We like each other. I will continue to follow them, exchange with them. I would like to see (Youssouf) Fofana, (Sofiane) Diop or (Aurelien) Tchouameni at Bayern or Liverpool!”

The French international has been capped 12 times for the national team as well. He was described as ‘combative and all-action presence’ in the middle of the park. Moreover, he has played all the matches as a defensive midfielder for Monaco so far this season. He even has three assists for him. Liverpool can have him as they are in a need of traditional no.6 in the squad. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future. However, it is almost certain that he will leave the Ligue1 side for a bigger club next summer.
