Chelsea Actively Pursuing £130,000-a-Week Defender, Targeted by Tottenham

In the latest report, it has been revealed that Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea is actively seeking to sign Manchester City central defender Aymeric Laporte. A player who is also being pursued by Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, in an interview with GiveMeSport, disclosed that Chelsea has made inquiries about Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte. Although there are currently no ongoing discussions between Chelsea and the treble-winners. The fact that the Blues have requested information about the £130,000-a-week Spanish international central defender indicates their strong interest in acquiring him.

This development will likely come as a setback for Tottenham Hotspur. As the Mirror previously reported their desire to sign Laporte from their Premier League rivals, Manchester City. According to the report, City is seeking a transfer fee of £60 million for the 29-year-old defender.

Galetti stated, “Aymeric Laporte is among the names on Chelsea’s list as a possible reinforcement this summer. No talks are underway at present. Chelsea’s focus is on strengthening other positions, but in recent weeks, the Blues have requested information about him.”

Chelsea or Tottenham – Where will Laporte go?

In our opinion, both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur may face difficulties in securing the signing of Aymeric Laporte from Manchester City during the summer transfer window. Firstly, the financial aspect may pose a challenge. As both clubs may be reluctant or unable to meet City’s £60 million valuation for Laporte. Additionally, considering that Laporte had limited playing time last season and is already 29 years old, there might be concerns about his resale value.

Secondly, Laporte himself may not be ready to switch to either Chelsea or Spurs. Chelsea is unlikely to contend for the Premier League title in the upcoming season. While Tottenham historically has not been consistent title challengers. Laporte is accustomed to winning Premier League titles and recently secured the UEFA Champions League with Manchester City.

In conclusion, while Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in Aymeric Laporte, various factors such as financial considerations and the player’s preferences could pose challenges in completing the transfer. The situation will undoubtedly continue to develop as the summer transfer window progresses.
