Chelsea wants to add yet another striker to their squad. This is according to the Portuguese newspaper A Bola which states that the club wants to sign Porto forward Mehdi Taremi. The reports state that Chelsea made contact in the previous transfer window with the possibility of negotiating a move for the Iranian player in the previous transfer window. However, Porto refused to sell the player as he is an integral player for the Porto team. So Chelsea made a bid for Pierre Emerick Aubameyang who arrived at Stamford Bridge for a fee of €12 million.

Chelsea were made aware of Taremi’s caliber and skill in their first leg of the quarter-finals defeat to Porto in the 2021/22 campaign. He scored the game-winning goal over Chelsea with an amazing bicycle kick. This goal even earned him a nomination for the Puskas award. Taremi’s contribution of 20 goals and 12 assists that season helped Porto win the Primera Liga. Consequently, this grabbed the attention of the club which thinks that his physical style of play will suit the English Premier League a lot.

Chelsea scouts were in Portugal to watch the player

According to a report from football.london, Chelsea had sent their scouts to watch Porto’s match against Braga. Porto won the match 4-1 thanks to goals by Pepe, Evanlisnosn, Eustaquio, and Galeno. However, none of them were of interest to the Chelsea scouts who had eyes on Taremi. Chelsea is looking to bolster their forward line with experience. They have acquired the services of Aubameyang for this and now they want Taremi too. They have a brilliant young prospect with them in the form of Armando Broja. In the academy division, Jude Soonsup-Bell, Lewis Hall, and Omari Hutchinson are some of the players who are raring to make an impact in the League with the club.
