Cody Gakpo reveals what role has Jurgen Klopp asked him to play at Liverpool. Gakpo explains that he will have to play like what Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino did. The Brazilian forward was one of the best players to ever feature for the Merseyside club. He recently secured a move to Saudi League in summer. Alongside Salah and Sadio Mane, Bobby created one of the most iconic trio in the history of Premier League. Moreover, the three stars even clinched the Champions League and the English league title. Besides this, they won numerous domestic trophies as well.
Gakpo arrived as a preparation for Firmino leaving. Although, the Dutchman is doing a pretty fair job, he still has a long way to go to reach what Bobby Firmino achieved. Speaking to Algemeen Daglbad, Gakpo told Klopp has actually asked him to be like Firmino at Liverpool. He said,
“[Klopp] immediately said in January: ‘Cody can press well, he can do as a striker what Roberto Firmino did for us for years’. I am challenged to get out of my comfort zone. I like that.”
It is worth remembering that even Firmino took a season before he became a top-class talent at Liverpool. With Gakpo, he surely has the ability to imitate him but still needs some time to get there. The fans must not rush and expect him to reach there in the nick of time. It will only create pressure on him. He is a very intelligent player who can play a deeper role as well as a forward in the team. Over the next few years, Gakpo could be the player Reds will be happy to have got on time if he keeps going in a positive atmosphere.
