Former Reds Steve Nicol suggests Uruguayan International Darwin Nunez is more frightening than Cody Gakpo and Diego Jota.
Reds now have some incredible attacking options up front at this moment. Manager Jurgen Klopp is wisely using his forwards in different circumstances.
Liverpool now have 5 attacking options in the likes Mohamed Salah, Luiz Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diego Jota and Darwin Nunez. In papers, there’s lot of versatility up front for the Mersyside club in this campaign.
Speaking on the Aldo Meets Podcast, Steve Nicol claims Darwin Nunez is currently the most frightening attacker in the Liverpool squad. However, he also he would rather play against Cody Gakpo or Diego Jota rather than the Uruguayan if he was a defender.
Nicol praised Darwin Nunez and said :-
“You don’t want anything to do with this guy. If I’m playing at centre-back I would rather play against Jota and I’d rather play against Gakpo. If Nunez is starting I’m like ‘oh god, I’m in for a tough time today.’ That’s with all due respect to Gakpo and Jota. They are good players and I have no problem with them playing if Salah goes, but Nunez has to play.”
Nunez is quite quick than Gakpo or Jota and that’s why Nicol claims as a defender he would be more frightening. The Uruguayan might have missed some opportunities in front of goal but he is impossible to stop during build-ups.
With right guidance under Klopp, Nunez has all the attributes to become a successful striker in future.
