England coach Matthew Mott makes a confession about the future of Dawid Malan

England lost the ODI series 3-0 against Australia days after being the T20 Champions. To make things worse, the team did not even compete against the Australian side. Despite the poor performance from other players, Dawid Malan impressed everyone in the series.

Malan’s Record in ODIs

Malan missed the finals of England’s T20 World Cup victory earlier this month due to a groin injury. Malan averages 50.55 in ODIs but improves to 73.75 while batting at number 3.
England’s white-ball coach Matthew Mott believes Malan can be a strong contender to be a part of the playing eleven and help England in the title defense. Mott said that Malan can play along with his Yorkshire teammate Joe Root.

“Dawid’s a class player, he makes big hundreds,”

Mott said.

“You can build a side around the way he plays. I think he’s got gears as well.
That’s something he’s been really keen to make sure that he doesn’t get typecast too much into playing that spine of the innings role – that he can if required up the ante and read the game situation.
I think he’s done that really well a few times for us. He’ll be a big part of the mixture for that World Cup.

England has a huge void to fill with the retirement of Ben Stokes. Mott has requested Stokes to come out of retirement to help England win World Cup on a trot. But still, Malan is waiting in the wings to be a part of this team with his consistent string of performances.
