Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Premier League club Everton missed out on signing Paris Sanit-Germain center-half Abdou Diallo on the deadline day of the January transfer window.

Everton recently announced the appointment of Frank Lampard as the new head coach. Frank Lampard takes over from Rafael Benitez as the head coach. Everton sacked Rafael Benitez after a 2-1 defeat against Norwich in the Premier League in January. Everton have had a horrible start to the season and have failed to pick up the form. The club are currently 16th in the Premier League table. The Toffees have picked up just 19 points from 20 league games so far. The club sits just four points above the relegation zone.

But after the appointment of Frank Lampard, Everon did make two signings on transfer deadline day. The toffees signed Dele Alli from Tottenham Hotspurs on a permanent deal and Donny van de Beek from Manchester United on a loan deal until the end of the season.

But according to Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Everton missed out on signing Abdou Diallo on deadline day. Taking on Que Golazo YouTube channel about Everton’s deadline day business, he said:

“They were also thinking of a potential centre-back, for example, Diallo of Paris Saint-Germain was a player they wanted to sign, but there was no time to do it on Deadline Day, so time was not helping them.”

Would Abdou Diallo have been a good addition to the Everton backline?

The toffees have struggled massively in defence this season. They have conceded 35 goals in just 20 league games so far this term. It is quite obvious to see who Frank Lampard wanted to add defensive reinforcement to his squad on deadline day.

Abdou Diallo has played a backup role for PSG this term. He has made 13 appearances in all competitions this term. While he has only made nine appearances in the league this term. (stats via Transfermarkt)

England international Michael Keane has shown a massive dip in form this season and looks out of form. The Senegal international would have been an upgrade on Michael Keane. The center-half can also feature at left-back and would have provided squad dept at both positions for the club. Diallo recently scored in the AFCON semi-final against Burkina Faso and now looks set to feature in the AFCON final.
