In a shocking update, an Everton player has been granted bail in his ongoing case of child sex offence. However, it’s upsetting that the bail granted is an extension of the earlier one. The investigating authorities have not disclosed the name of the player who is under the charges. It is understood that the name is under the wraps owning to legal reasons.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said, “Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences. He is on police bail pending further enquiries”. However, the inquiries will continue as confirmed by the authorities. But Everton FC have also taken action on their levels, suspending the player until further notice. The Greater Manchester Police are following up the case and have issued the update.

Everton released an official statement last year in July, announcing the suspension of the unnamed first-team player. The club’s statement read, “Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation. The club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”

Bail extended of the suspended Everton player

A new development has taken place, with the bail of Everton player extended. However, the player was on bail since July 23, 2021, after being arrested on 16th of the same month. But a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that ‘a man arrested on July 16, 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences has had his bail extended’.

Reportedly, the force made an application for the same, which seems has been granted. The magistrates have approved and the spokesperson has further stated, “He [the Everton player] will now be asked to answer bail on Saturday, July 16 as enquiries continue.”

The news broke out last year as a complete shocker for the Merseyside club. However, the club have acted accordingly, lending full cooperation in the investigation. Some reports indicated that the house of the Everton player underwent a search and some items seized. Furthermore, the player encountered loads of questions rigorously while in custody.

Meanwhile Everton have their own problems on the pitch as well. The Toffees are fighting hard to keep-up in the Premier League. Everton fired Rafa Benitez in January this year after the club hit rock-bottom, losing 2-1 to Norwich. Frank Lampard appointed as the successor, too has had some mixed results. However, Everton still sit just a place above the relegation spots, with three points separating 18th placed Burnley and the Toffees.

But their latest victory against Manchester United could act as a morale booster for fighting the relegation battle. Everton next face Leicester City in Premier League’s mid-week match-day.
