Gary Lineker was lauding Aston Villa striker who is on the list of Arsenal‘s transfer targets. Lineker was in full praise for Villa man Ollie Watkins and told what makes him special. The Villa man is doing quite impressive job this season for his club. Journalist Chris Wheatley reported in October that Arsenal are interested in signing Watkins. Besides him, Ivan Toney is the man buzzing in the Gunners’ target list.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and England player Lineker praises the work ethics of £28m striker. Watkins was on the scoresheet last weekend against Brentford. Moreover, the English international now has nine goals and six assists in 17 Premier League games so far this season. He was also having fifteen goals and six assists during the 2022/23 season. Lineker said about Watkins on The Rest is Football podcast that,
“The way he is going, he is playing himself very much into the England squad in the summer.
That’s nine goals, nine assists this season. He has got a fantastic work ethic and energy when he plays as well.”
However, a deal with Villa is not looking a feasible option at this point. Unai Emery’s side is also in the race for the title and won’t let their star leave in January. Furthermore, Watkins has just penned down a new contract with his club in October. The manager will love his lethal weapon to stay with the club and secure a Champions League spot for them. Moreover, he will definitely not sell his main man to a direct title rivals and a club whom he was a former servant as well.
