George Russell analyzes the performance boost in W13

George Russell Mercedes

George Russell thinks that Mercedes has improved a lot in terms of the on-track performance of W13.

Mercedes started the 2022 season with an off. The Silver Arrows were largely off-pace than their rivals Ferrari and Red bull. The new regulations seemed to have affected the team in the worst way possible.

Nevertheless, lately, the team has enjoyed a surge in their performance. Since the US GP, the team is not just competing for podiums but winning now. And they also ended their win drought last time out in Brazil.

George Russell secured his maiden Formula 1 win in Brazil as Mercedes managed to clinch a 1-2 after two years.

Russell is hugely impressed by the resurrection of the team given the fact that proposing plagued the major part of their season:

“Definitely well over a second [quicker than Bahrain], I would say”

says Russell to the media.

“I think in Bahrain I qualified ninth. At Imola, both Lewis and I were out in Q2.

“We were fighting with Alfa Romeo and at Haas the start of the season and well over a second behind Ferrari, who were looking the most dominant team at the time.

“I think it really goes to show the improvements we’ve made.”

Mercedes will now focus on bringing more development

Geroge Russell is having a brilliant opening season with the Silver Arrows. The car is hugely reliable but was awfully slow. Now, this is no longer the case so, the team can now focus on bringing better upgrades than the porpoising issue.

George Russell also believes that the bouncing issue affected the team’s ability to bring more performance upgrades to the W13:

“We lost so much time trying to solve the porpoising issues and that really hurt our development.

“I think that’s why we’re seeing such a jump in performance in these past eight races.

“It’s because we’re no longer focusing on the porpoising and we’re now focused on bringing performance.”

The final round of the 2022 F1 season is here with the 2022 Abu Dhabi GP.
