‘He wants to…’ In the middle of “rumors,” Fabrizio Romano updates us on the status of the Liverpool players

The most recent details regarding Thiago Alcantara’s future as a midfield player for Liverpool have been shared by Fabrizio Romano.

The 32-year-old is nearing the end of his Anfield contract. While he is expected to make a comeback this month, he hasn’t played since April of last year due to a chronic hip injury. As a result, there’s a good chance Thiago won’t be given a new contract.

Additionally, according to reports from The Mirror, his former team Barcelona wants to bring him back to Camp Nou in order to fill the midfield void. The Italian transfer reporter has stated that the Spain international is not expected to leave the team anytime soon, though.

In his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, Romano wrote. “Despite the rumors, no, I’m not aware of any movement for Thiago Alcantara right now.

It’s a very quiet January for him so far. No talks and focus on Liverpool as he wants to return as soon as possible on the pitch. The story could change in the summer, but now it’s very quiet.”

 Thiago s future is uncertain

Given his age and contract status, Thiago earns £200,000 per week, which makes him Liverpool’s third-highest earner (Capology). As such, there may be some logic to cashing in on him in January.

However, Jurgen Klopp has already seen numerous members of his squad succumb to injuries this season. And dispensing of a player of the 32-year-old’s ability in that context would be reckless in the extreme.

The former Barcelona star may not play much football between now and May, but his major trophy winning experience could be a valuable asset in the Anfield locker room. His availability might also aid in that crucial rotation when the spring fixtures start to pile up.

As he gets closer to making a comeback to action, Thiago, who has patiently endured months of rehabilitation, will have the energy of a greyhound about to be freed from its chains.

The benefit of holding onto him for the remainder of the season and using his abilities to help us win the Premier League title before he leaves for free in the summer (assuming his contract is extended) far outweighs the cost of taking the money now and losing out on a fantastic player for the final stretch.
