James Maddison linked with a move away to Tottenham

According to Dean Jones, a football journalist, Tottenham admired Leicester City star James Maddison for years now. But now they can really make a move for him.

Tottenham Hotspurs are on a roll in this summer transfer window. They already bought six players to reinforce their squad ahead of the new season. Richarlison Andrade, Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Clement Lenglet all joined them. Just a day ago they also announced the signing of Djed Spence.

Looks like they backed their coach Antonio Conte thoroughly as well as pleased the fans too. However, many pointed out there is still a void in the creative outlet for them.

Maddison and Tottenham situation

Many believed that Spurs would return their former star Christian Eriksen but he ended up signing for Manchester United. Now that slot is still open and they can go for James Maddison. Jones in a previous report mentioned that Maddison is also open to joining Tottenham. The England international has 2 more years left on his current contract at Tottenham. If the Foxes don’t sell him now, they might risk selling him for a low price. He said:

“I do believe that James Maddison has the ambition to move on, I think he’s ready to step up and I think that he’d definitely be open to a move to Tottenham. I’m just not sure whether that opportunity’s going to open up unless Tottenham offer an awful lot of money.”

But although Tottenham admires Maddison, they can’t lure him easily as he is their best player now. This might complicate the procedure. Jones further said:

“It would be an amazing player for them to land just as the season’s getting underway. There’s no doubt they like him, they’ve liked him for a long time. I think the problem they’ve got is that James Maddison is Leicester’s best player.”
