Speaking during a recent interview, former England international and now football pundit Jamie Carragher talking about Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka revealed that the football fans are very critical of him but the player lets himself down.

Granit Xhaka joined Arsenal back in the summer of 2016. But things haven’t been always on the bright side for the Swiss midfielder. The deep line midfielder was named as club captain by former manager Unai Emery. But he was then stripped off the captaincy just months later due to a poor reaction while being subbed in one game. While the midfielder has had some good moments in Arsenal colors. But the midfielder has also had a couple of famous sending-offs with the gunners.

Granit Xhaka has been a key ingredient in Mikel Arteta and Arsenal’s bid for Champions League football at the end of the season. The Swizz international has made a total of 19 appearances across all competitions this term. In this time he has recorded one assist in all competitions. (stats via Transfermarkt) Just like other seasons, Xhaka has had his defensive issues this term too. He has been sent off twice this term too. Once away at Manchester City in the Premier League and then against Liverpool in the League Cup.

What did Jamie Carragher say about Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka?

Talking to Sky Sports Premier League about Arsenal’s recent form in the league and Granit Xhaka, Carragher said:

“Thing about Xhaka is that we are very critical of him,”  “I wouldn’t say we are wrong.

“But every manager picks him. Even when he has been sent off and suspended, as soon as he returns, he always goes straight back into the team.

“There’s something about him. Maybe behind-the-scenes, in the dressing room or the type of character he is. I think we can all agree that he is a good player. We saw that in the summer as well in the international tournament.

“There is a player there that lets himself down at different times. Maybe this role he is now, a little bit further forward, means he doesn’t hurt his team much with a silly challenge.”

While the midfielder’s shortcomings are well known. But he has been a keen ingredient in the squad for every Arsenal manager he has played under. With the brilliant run of form, Arsenal have been on in the league, we have also seen some of Xhaka’s best qualities. The Arsenal faithful will be certainly hoping that the midfielder can put his disciplinary woes behind him for good.
