Journalist claims that Liverpool wants to sign Romeo Lavia

SkySports Journalist Melissa Reddy claims that Liverpool want to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer.

Reds have already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Liepzig. And, it doesn’t look like Liverpool have finished yet in bolstering their midfield ranks.

As per reports, Red are looking to sign Romeo Lavia from relegated Premier club Southampton. But Liverpool isn’t the only club pursuing him, Arsenal and Chelsea are also in the race.

Now, SkySports journalist Melissa Reddy has provided an update on the matter and wrote in the column:-

“Liverpool, who are undergoing a rebuild which has included the additions of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, view Lavia as a long-term anchor.

“However, there would need to be a significant dent in Southampton’s asking price for the Belgium international, who would also need to make clear Anfield is his destination of choice.

“Liverpool’s approach this summer has been to extract value for the right profile despite an inflated market and pursue ‘clean’ deals that do not involve bidding wars or become drawn out.

“The club’s stance is there would need to be outgoings in midfield first – Thiago is attracting widespread interest – before they sign another player for that department.

“Liverpool’s ideal is for a third fresh recruit there and if circumstances align a signing could happen regardless of exits.”

Lavia was sensational last season. He impressed everyone despite playing for a struggling side.

Liverpool have found Lavia as a long-term replacement for Brazilian midfielder Fabinho. Hence Reds will negotiate the price down and Southampton won’t leverage it.
