Tottenham Hotspur eyeing for a return of ex-Manchester United star midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

There have been some reports suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring back Manchester United star Angel Gomes to Premier League. The London-born midfielder did not enjoy a very long run at Old Trafford during his time.

It was during the 2020 season when he rejected to sign a contract extension with the Red Devils. He accepted a five-year deal with French outfit Lille and he has not disappointed, becoming a key performer for the club. This season nobody currently has more assists than him with eight to his name. The club wants him to pen down a contract renewal but there are clubs keen on securing the 23-year old man.

Tottenham keen on Manchester United Starlet

Clubs like West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are closely scouting the Lille star. Moreover, there is a possibility that United can also reignite their interest and bring him back home. There is also interest in Germany and Italy, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan amongst those to watch him.

The North Londoners are leading the race as per rumours as they look to bring in some creativity into their ranks. Only Brennan Johnson and Son have more assists that Gomes this season for them. Ange Postecoglou’s men Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma have not been on their very best in terms of creative play.

Accounting all this, Gomes will be a sure shot starter for the Lilywhites. Although this will not be an easy signature, Spurs will be willing to give their all for him. Ex-United winger Anthony Elanga noted that Gomes was an ‘amazing‘ talent, so it would be a potential coup if Tottenham could be the side to bring him back to the Premier League this summer. Moreover, the midfielder can play as a holding midfielder as well an attacking threat in the middle of the park.
