Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has rained his praise on former Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan. The German left City in 2023 to play for arch rivals of Bellingham, FC Barcelona. However, the Englishman is looking to be highly impressed by lauding him recently. The no. 5 of Madrid has been explosive since his transfer from Borussia Dortmund. He has remarkably scored 17 goals while also providing five assists in just 23 appearances. Moreover, he is now suspected to be luring Erling Haaland to move to the record Champions League winners. The former BVB man recently admitted that he found it very tough in the midfield going against Gundogan.
“I will never forget facing Gundogan. We played them away and he was really good. We played him at home and he played more like a six (deep lying midfielder). Honestly, I couldn’t get anywhere near him.
The amount of times I went to press him thinking that he weren’t looking, like I could nick it off him, then he was just gone on one touch, he was so smart. It was the first time I thought, oh my god, I can’t get near him, I can’t touch him.”
It has not been a good start to for the former Manchester skipper at Spain. His side sit third in the league even behind Girona – a City Group owned club. However, his individual performance has been brilliant undoubtedly. Gundogan has scored three goals while also providing seven assists in 27 appearances for Barcelona. He even scored a crucial 93rd minute winner against Las Palmas in Barcelona’s last La Liga outing. Reports suggest that he left Man City out of frustration despite winning a historic treble the same season.
