Former Juventus star Leonardo Bonucci has lauded 29-year old Manchester City star. Bonucci was speaking to The Sun in which he praises City man John Stones. The 36 year old Italian international is himself a renowned and legendary defender. He also has a huge trophy cabinet. Besides being multiple time Serie A champion, he guided nation to the Euro 2020 glory. Moreover, he was also in the UEFA team of the year in 2016.
Bonucci told how he rejected the £100m to Manchester City in 2016. Owing to his rejection, City signed John Stones for a £47.5m deal. Speaking about the England international, the Italian said,
“I struggle to find a deficiency in players like Stones, who have won what he did. He’s a leader, reads the game well, has rhythms and is intelligent.
He’s a technical player and a nasty defender. At City, Guardiola saw a perfect role for him, to be more of a ball playing defender… Stones has done great things and I like him a lot. He’s one of the best in the world.”
The 2023/24 campaign is not a very delightful one for the 29-year old so far. He only featured in one game for the club in a 2-1 win over Everton after which he is a sustained an ankle injury. Despite any official statement from the club, Stones has heated his return for the club. He posted on a social media that he will be back very soon.
“So good to finish the year with a win, what a year it’s been!! Gutted I couldn’t be involved today but I’ll be back soon.”
The fans at Etihad will be hoping no any further injuries to their star defender after he eventually returns back.
