Liverpool Midfield Duo Henderson and Fabinho Face Uncertain Future

Liverpool

As Liverpool prepares to embark on their pre-season training camp in Germany, two key figures, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, find themselves at the center of swirling transfer rumors. Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph reports that interest from Saudi Arabia could potentially lure these experienced players away from Anfield.

With the next 24 hours expected to remain quiet on the transfer front. As Henderson and Fabinho are set to stay with Liverpool, at least for the time being. The Reds are eagerly looking forward to their first friendly match against Bundesliga 2 team Karlsruher, scheduled for Wednesday.

The temptation of £700,000-a-Week for Liverpool Star Henderson

Liverpool’s captain, Jordan Henderson, faces a tempting offer that could have a significant impact on his career. Al-Ettifaq, a Saudi Arabian club, has presented a staggering £700,000-a-week contract proposal. While speculation abounds regarding Henderson’s intentions, it is evident that he is considering every option available.

Should Al-Ettifaq’s interest stem from a desire to secure Henderson at a reduced rate, complications may arise for the player. But, Liverpool shows no intention of lowering their asking price, firmly maintaining a minimum valuation of £20 million, in line with the fee Chelsea received for 32-year-old Kalidou Koulibaly.

Fabinho Draws Attention with Potential £40 Million Offer

Fabinho, the formidable midfield presence, is not immune to the allure of Saudi interest. Al-Ittihad is reportedly weighing a substantial £40 million offer for his services. The possibility of such significant bids could disrupt Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the upcoming season.

Back in 2021, Klopp secured a four-year deal for Henderson, worth £200,000-a-week, deviating from the data-driven approach traditionally followed by FSG. This decision raised eyebrows due to its departure from the club’s strategy of extending contracts for players aged 30 and above.

The Evolving Midfield Scenario at Liverpool

Since then, Liverpool has refrained from signing any new midfielders until this summer, resulting in an aging squad. Three senior midfielders have already left the club since May. While Liverpool is open to selling another midfielder to accommodate an incoming player. But losing both Henderson and Fabinho was not part of the original plan.

The potential move to Saudi Arabia has sparked backlash from Liverpool’s LGBT+ fans regarding Henderson. Unlike other international stars who have joined the Saudi Pro League, Henderson’s vocal support for oppressed groups has amplified disappointment among a segment of the club’s fanbase.
