According to reports, Liverpool is targeting Real Madrid forward Rodrygo ahead of the January transfer window. Liverpool is set to offer a reported fee of around £68m to bring the Brazilian forward to Anfield.

El Nacional has reported that Liverpool has named Rodrygo as their leading transfer target and is keen on bringing in Rodrygo in the January transfer window. The reds had a £51m bid rejected in the summer by Real Madrid for Rodrygo. But Liverpool is now willing to increase their offer to £68m to land the forward.

The youngster has made 19 appearances in all competitions for Los Blancos this term. In this time he has recorded two goals and three assists. He still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his current Real Madrid contract.

During his time in the Spanish capital, Rodrygo has made 78 appearances in all competitions. In this time he has recorded 11 goals and set up a further 14 goals for his teammates. (stats via Transfermarkt)

Why Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp need Rodrygo?

Liverpool is set to be without star winger duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for the first month of 2022. As the duo will be participating in the African Cup of Nations with their respective nations Egypt and Senegal.

Following this, Rodrygo can add some much-needed depth to the Liverpool squad, if signed in January. Liverpool’s star front three, Salah, Mane, and Firmino all have contracts that expire in 2023 and whether they will sign a new contract still remains a question. The young forward can hence be an option for the present and future of the football club and be the long-term successor for the aging frontline.

He has averaged 1.6 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in the Champions League this term. On top of that, he has managed an 86.5% pass accuracy in the Champions League this term. Despite being a winger he has averaged 0.4 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game in the Champions League. (stats via Whoscored)

These stats show that despite being a winger, he is ready to work hard for his team and trackback. Jurgen Klopp’s forward line has always been known for being hard-working. Rodrygo seems a very good fit player for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s system.
