Luis Diaz might be benched against Wolves – Paul Merson

Pundit Paul Merson claims Manager Jurgen Klopp might bench Luis Diaz against Wolves as Diego Jota or Cody Gakpo can take his spot in the starting eleven.

Reds will travel to Molineux to face Wolves on Saturday as Liverpool looks in red hot form this season. The Mersyside club won 3 out 4 matches in Premier League

Diaz, Gakpo and Jota were all representing their countries last week. But Merson believes that the Columbian International needs rest after the international break.

Diaz was one of the last player to return to the club and he also missed the training session on Friday. He might not be ready for the clash against Wolves on Saturday.

Merson claims Klopp might rest Diaz as he believes that Reds have enough quality in the likes of Diego Jota and Cody Gakpo to give the winger a well deserve rest on Saturday.

Merson discussed the matter and said :-

“A Saturday morning game after an international break is always a hard one to call as most players – at least from the so-called top-six sides – go away to represent their countries. It acts as a bit of a leveller and is a huge advantage. So, Liverpool will have to be wary of that.

“It’s particularly hard for South Americans, like Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz. But the Reds might be able to get away with rotating a few players.

“Mac Allister will probably start. But Liverpool can afford to bench Diaz as the likes of Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, who both scored for their countries in the international break, are waiting patiently on the wings.”
