Mac Allister is not playing on his right position – Martin Keown

Liverpool

Pundit Martin Keown suggests Alexis Mac Allister is not playing on his position after he joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Reds have made great start to the season as they are currently unbeaten across all competitions. World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister has been good for the Mersyside club but Keown doubts his current role at his new club.

Liverpool signed Mac Allister from Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth of £35 million. He is an exceptional player, who is good on ball, can score goals and create opportunities for his team.

However, Jurgen Klopp is deploying Mac Allister in a deeper role for Liverpool this season. Keown believes that the Argentine international is much better going up the field.

The pundit claims that the 24-year-old is loosing balls in his current position, which is causing problems for Liverpool’s backline. Speaking on talkSPORT, Keown said :-

“I think he is a great player. But I am not sure he’s playing in the right role.

“As wonderful as he is, he is losing the ball too much in that (number six) area.”

Liverpool will lock horns against Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday, as both the teams are currently unbeaten in the Premier League this season. Reds should be marking James Maddinson up, as the midfielder is in great form.

Klopp might deploy Ryan Gravenberch or Wataru Endo in the number six position to contain Maddinson on Sunday. With more matches being played, Mac Allister will be settling down to his new role at a new club.
