Manchester United have reportedly declined the opportunity to make a bid for Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic, as per The Metro. The Reds were offered the chance to sign the USA international but opted against pursuing the deal. Instead, Lyon is said to be leading the race to secure Pulisic, according to French publication L’Equipe.
Speaking with ESPN, Pulisic said:
“It’s absolutely a time where I need to figure out what’s going to be best for my future and be somewhere where I can go and play and be trusted and feel good in what I’m doing”
Pulisic struggled to get game time in the recent seasons under different managers and looked quite unsettled at Chelsea. Despite a few glimpses here and there, he failed to make his mark and now wants a move away to revamp his career. Pulisic might not get much game time at United as well with the likes of Rashford, Garnacho, Sancho.
Man United assess Pulisic but wanted Mount
The decision of United not to express interest in Pulisic comes as no surprise. Pulisic has had mixed performances since his arrival at Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund. The winger showed promise in his first season but has failed to live up to expectations since then.
United have had their fair share of underwhelming signings, and Pulisic can add to their list, if they tried to sign him. They are now looking to only sign players who fit their squad and works hard under the manager Ten Hag. Meanwhile, they are currently looking to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea, as per Fabrizio.
With Chelsea looking to trim their squad, negotiations for Mason Mount are proving challenging. But, he is the only player from Stamford Bridge on United’s target list. Chelsea are desperate to offload players this summer. Despite sending four of their players to Saudi, they are still trying to offload few other players in a major revamp under new manager Pochettino.
Fans are eager to see how Pulisic can revive his career away from Chelsea with the potential he has. It will be a huge challenge for Chelsea to get good amount for Pulisic after disappointing performances in recent times.
