Man United may not sign Mason Mount this summer

Mount

The pursuit of Mason Mount for Man United is in jeopardy as they struggle to reach a consensus on the transfer fee with Chelsea. Despite submitting two offers for the player, United is preparing to explore alternative options if an agreement cannot be reached.

The initial bid of £40 million made by United was swiftly rejected by Chelsea. They value the 24-year-old midfielder at £70 million. United followed up with an improved offer of an initial fee of £45 million plus £5 million in add-ons. However, Chelsea once again turned down the proposal. Meanwhile, personal terms are fully agreed between United and Mount, reports Fabrizio.

Romano suggests that Chelsea could potentially lower their asking price for Mount to around £60-£65 million, including add-ons. Even with a reduced valuation, this figure still exceeds United’s willingness to pay by £10 million.

Alternative options in sight for United if Mount deal falls off

Manchester United has identified Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze as a potential replacement if a deal for Mount cannot be reached. With a market value of €30 million, Eze offers a more financially viable option for United.

Despite considering alternatives, Mount remains the top choice for United manager Erik ten Hag. Due to his energy, pressing ability, and technical quality, he aligns with the team’s high-pressing system. However, United must act swiftly to secure the midfielder’s signature before the new season commences, or they may need to reassess their options to avoid a protracted negotiation process.

While Mount’s quality and experience makes him a perfect fit at United, they are also wary of the transfer fee which they can pay for Mount. Besides, his contract expires by the end of next season and they might as well get him on free after this season. He’s still young and has a lot of football left in him.

Fans and Mount’s representatives eagerly await the outcome of this scenario. Both Mount and United will benefit if the deal goes through this summer.
