According to the latest reports, Manchester City registered interest in RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.
A report from Daily Mail also said that the Croatian is on the radar of the Man City management. This is because their current member Nathan Ake wants to leave the club. The London club Chelsea held an interest in signing the Dutch defender from the reigning Premier League champions.
Gvardiol made 52 appearances for his native land club Dinamo Zagreb. There he also scored 4 goals and registered 3 assists as well. Before the start of the recently concluded season, he moved to his current club RB Leipzig. In his debut season for the German outfit, he made a total of 45 appearances in all competitions. The 20 year old also scored twice while registering 3 assists.
Manchester City defender situation
Just 2 years back in 2020, Manchester City splashed out cash for a young centre back, Ruben Dias from SL Benfica. Since then the Portugal international has been quite a key figure for the club on the pitch as he led the club to two successive Premier League triumphs since his arrival. Now that Guardiola and Co. turned their attention to the Croatian, many believe he can be a mainstay for the club in times to come.
Gvardiol turned out to better in many aspects of defending than Ruben Dias based on stats. He made more interceptions, blocks, clearances successfully than the Portuguese in 29 league apps (both same apps). He also had more shots on goal as well as a better percentage of aerial duels won.
Former Bayern Munich striker made the following comment abut him: “Gvardiol is an extraordinary talent. He can play great long balls, is a fine technician and is physically very strong.” Now if Nathan Ake decides to leave, Gvardiol can be a formidable signing. But CIES reports that RB Leipzig values him at around £102 million.
