Manchester City have announced the signing of Jeremy Doku. The news was confirmed on Man City’s official website. City had been in talks with Stade Rennais for over a week to sort out a deal for Doku. Finally, a deal worth €60 million was agreed between both the clubs, with Doku signing a five-year contract with City.

It been a couple of wonderful days for City and their fans. Two days ago, star player Bernardo Silva signed a six-year contract extension, despite strong rumours of an exit this summer. And now, the announcement of the signing of Jeremy Doku, a ‘phenomenal‘ winger. After signing his contract, Doku became Man City’s third signing of the summer after Mateo Kovaciç and Jasko Gvardiol.

Jeremy Doku was regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in the Ligue 1. After making a move to Rennais in 2020, Doku emerged as skillful winger with outstanding technical abilities. He continued to develop as an exciting prospect at Rennais before becoming a regular starter in 2022. Doku made 92 appearances for Rennais, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists. The 21-year old winger is also developing as a ‘future star‘ for his national team Belgium, having already made 14 appearances for them so far.

‘Doku is a promising young player with exciting attributes’

After completing his move to City, Doku expressed his happiness and the excitement to play under Pep Guardiola. Speaking in his first interview, Doku said: “This is a great day for me, both personally and professionally. Manchester City are the best team in world football, so to be joining them is something very special for me and my family. I am a young player with so much learning and improving to do. Working with Pep and his staff, and playing alongside these work-class players, will make me a much better player. I feel sure of that. I cannot wait to get started. Hopefully I can make the fans happy.”

It is without a doubt that Jeremy Doku is a fantastic signing for City. His electric pace, matched with great dribbling skills, makes him an outstanding winger. Doku is also comfortable playing with both his feet, allowing him to play well in either of the wings. Versatility is a trait that Pep Guardiola values a lot in his players. Therefore, it seems quite like the Belgian will develop to become a strong ‘weapon‘ for Guardiola.

Primarily signed as replacement for Riyad Mahrez, the decision of signing Doku was also triggered by Kevin De Bruyne’s injury. With Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez appearing as options to play in KDB’s position, Jeremy is expected to get regular minutes, playing in the right wing. Jeremy Doku’s debut is also expected to happen pretty soon. City take on Sheffield United on Sunday, which could very possibly be the day when the City fans will see their new no.11 take the field for them for the very first time.
