Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is seriously considering dropping Harry Maguire for their visit to Liverpool. Maguire started in both of United’s defeats in the Premier League. He started alongside new arrival Lisandro Martinez who also had a disappointing start to his United career. Now, following his disappointing performances for the club, the manager Ten Hag is considering dropping Harry Maguire in the next match against Liverpool which is a do-or-die match for both teams.

Liverpool has had an underwhelming start to the season this season. They have drawn both of their games one against Fulham and one against Crystal Palace. On the other hand, Manchester United have had a horrible start to their season. They have lost both their matches of the season. United lost 2-1 to Brighton and they had a 4-0 thrashing by Brentford. United now sits at the bottom of the table because of this horrible showing. Matchday three is a very important day for both the clubs. A win would boost morale for both teams whereas a loss for either would see them fall down the table.

Reports in the Manchester Evening News are now claiming that the United dressing room is unhappy with the manager. Many players in the dressing room feel that Ten Hag’s approach does not suit their skill set. Moreover, the players are looking for a more pragmatic approach against Liverpool. The scars of the 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool are still fresh in the minds of the United players. It is imperative that United salvage at least a draw against The Reds on match day three.

United manager’s view on Maguire

Maguire was dropped by the interim manager Ralf Ragnick in the 3-1 defeat against Arsenal last season. However, Maguire has since then retained the captaincy of Manchester United under Erik Ten Hag. During the pre-season tour, Ten Hag confirmed that Maguire and Martinez will be the first choice for the centre-back post.

“Is Maguire a first-choice? I think he is. He’s proved it in the past but he also has to prove it in the present time and in the future. He has played how many times? Sixty times for England? He is a career that is really impressive and I expect a lot from him. But there is also internal competition and that is what a club like Man United needs.”
