United have made contact with the French club on the availability of the Argentine midfielder

French outlet L’Equipe has reported that Manchester United have enquired about the availability of Leandro Paredes. Erik ten Hag is looking to start the season with a bang. To help him with this, he is looking for reinforcements all over the field. However, the midfield is a top priority for Ten Hag this season. United are looking to sign a new defensive midfielder this season and so far they have been unsuccessful in this pursuit.

Manchester United are in heavy pursuit of Frenkie de Jong this season. He has been playing a clinical role as a defensive midfielder at Barcelona. De Jong has had a stellar career under Ten Hag at Ajax. He is Manchester United’s priority signing this summer. However, talks with Barcelona are at a stalemate currently. This has prompted United to look for alternative options.

Leandro Paredes is one such alternative for the club. However, the report by L’Equipe further claims that a deal is unlikely to happen. The 28-year-old has a market value of  €17m. Moreover, new PSG coach Christophe Galtier has informed him that he is a surplus to his plans at Parc Des Princes this year. Eleven other players, including Paredes, are being deemed as a surplus to the club’s requirement by the new coach.

Leandro Paredes is an unnecessary transfer for the Red Devils

United have lost two midfielders, Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba this season. Reinforcements at the center of the field are much needed at Old Trafford. However, reinforcements are already on the way. Christian Eriksen will arrive at Old Trafford this summer on a free transfer. But, it is worth noting that he is an attacking midfielder. Eriksen is primarily focused on creating chances and joining in on the attack.

Paredes is not an absolute necessity for the club at the moment. He is a liability to the club. His consistent injury issues are worrying for Untied. Unless PSG lowers the asking price, he is better off being just an emergency signing in case the De Jong deal is unsuccessful.
