Manchester United have reportedly lost out to Real Madrid for the signature of French wonder-kid Eduardo Camavinga.

There has been intense speculation about the 18-year-old over the last few months. Amid heavy links to Manchester United, it seems Camavinga prefers a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Entering into the final year of his contract with Rennes, the French international can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other clubs from January. However, Real Madrid have offered a cut-price for his services this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Rennes board accepted Real Madrid’s proposal of €31 million + add ons for Camavinga. The report adds that the player picked Real Madrid over Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. Moreover, Medical tests have already been completed and the youngster is set to join Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Did Manchester United make a mistake not moving for Camavinga?

Camavinga has a total of two goals and five assists in 88 appearances for Rennes. His defensive attributes are probably what caught the eye of Manchester United. With 3.9 tackles per 90 minutes, the midfield man is not afraid of a challenge. He boasts a tackle success rate of 72% in Ligue 1 and 45% in the Champions League. United fans have been crying out for a quality holding midfield player. Only 18 years of age, the young man has immense potential.

Camavinga would’ve been a great addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad, especially in keeping with the philosophy of developing young players into first-team footballers.

Manchester United failed to act with urgency when Camavinga announced that he would be leaving Rennes. But, it sounds as if he wanted a move elsewhere and didn’t have any aspirations to join the Red Devils.
