Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that his team will be ready for Villarreal on Wednesday following a 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Villa won for their first game in the league this season after Kortney Hause scored a late header. Bruno Fernandes failed to rescue at least a point for United after missing a stoppage-time penalty.
The Manchester club are next in action in the Champions League on Wednesday, when they host Villarreal at Old Trafford. Solskjaer’s side are on the back of successive defeats at home. United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham last week prior to the Villa defeat.
United are bottom of Group F ahead of Villarreal’s visit. There is pressure on the English giants to win after losing their group opener to Young Boys.
Ole on how Manchester United will react against Villarreal on Wednesday
Solskjaer has said that his players will be ready to “fight for each other” on Wednesday. United are looking to overcome a disappointing run of fixtures. They have lost three of their last four games in all competitions.
“Big game. Champions League. We need to pick up points which is a position these boys have been in before. I know they will fight for each other and fight for the shirt and we will be ready for that one”, Solskjaer told BBC Sport.
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire and left-back Luke Shaw are both doubts for the Champions League clash with Villarreal after being forced off in the defeat to Aston Villa.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “At the moment they don’t look okay for Wednesday (against Villarreal) but let’s see.
“Sorry, I can’t give you any updates. We will have to use today and tomorrow and Monday, or when we get the scans done, and see how they are.”
