Matip is not fit enough to play in the Premier League – Graeme Souness

Liverpool

Pundit Graeme Souness claims Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip is not fit enough to play in the Premier League due to his age.

Liverpool acquired four midfielders in the summer transfer window, but they neglected to bring in a new left-footed centre-back. Souness is very much worried about this situation as they lack firepower in their backline.

Speaking to the Mirror, Souness claims that Reds should have a bought a new centre-back this summer. He also stated that Liverpool cannot rely on Joel Matip is future due to his growing age.

Pundit shared his views about Matip :-

“I think the defence is more than good enough, the goalkeeper is more than good enough, but the blend in the midfield is not quite right. I’d like to see them get another central defender, Matip can’t keep himself fit for a long, hard Premier League year.

The Cameroonian International has been a great profesional for Liverpool in last couple of campaigns. Only fatigue has been clear issue in his career at Anfield.

Injuries has been a constant problem for Matip in recent campaigns. Meanwhile both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are out of form.

Youngster Jarell Quansah has been a bright spark for Liverpool in the early stages of this Premier League campaign. However, Reds still need to sign a new centre-back for future.

Klopp and Co will be monitoring their options in January transfer window next year as lots of young and emerging names will be in market.
