According to a fellow sim racer, Max Verstappen is misunderstood by most on the grid as the Dutchman is the most honest guy on the grid.
Max Verstappen is known for his blunt comments and replies. This habit of his lands him in hot water a lot of times. In most recent example was when the Dutchman talked about his crash with Lewis Hamilton. Or his incident with Sergio Perez during the Brazilian GP. The Dutchman seems to have no filter when it comes to speaking on a topic.
However, a close acquaintance of Verstappen thinks that his character is mostly misunderstood on the grid. According to Atze Kerkhof – team redline sim racer, Verstappen is often misunderstood by others:
“How I know Max is completely different from how the world sees him,”
Kerkhof said in a Team Redline interview.
“What we do very well in Holland is that we always speak the truth, in terms of what we think – we’re quite direct.“
“Max is very ‘Dutch’ when it comes to his communication. He’s very direct and it helps him a lot and the people around him. Because you know exactly what he means and what he wants to say, and he’s just always direct.”
Verstappen is ‘the most natural guy’ – Kerkhof
Verstappen wrapped the 2022 season after securing a record-breaking 15 wins. The Dutchman dominated the 2022 season going on to secure 35 career grand Prix victories at an age of just 25 years.
Kerkhof argues that Verstappen is wrongly viewed as a guy putting up a front. Whereas, Kerkhof views Max Verstappen as “the most natural and honest guy” on the F1 grid:
“The messed up thing that I see in F1 is that everything is such a show. But you cannot take the truth separate from the acts anymore,”
he explained.
“That’s where things get really confusing, where the most natural guy, the most honest guy on the grid is probably seen as someone who is putting up a show by people, and on that part Max is misunderstood.”
“But the good part about him is that he doesn’t care what people think. He doesn’t lose any sleep on what others say about him.”
“Whatever he says in his personal life is often what he says in the media, so it’s actually what he really thinks – which makes him unique.”
With Red bull finishing the season at such a high, Max Verstappen is still the favorite coming to the 2023 season. The Dutchman will be looking to secure his third consecutive world title.
