Max Verstappen recently told that he is more careful when talking about his battles with Lewis Hamilton to the media.
Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have had their share of battles and wheel-to-wheel racing. Both drivers push each other to the maximum when racing against each other.
This has led to many moments of contact and sometimes crashes that ended races. The 2021 season was a great example of how intense their rivalry can be.
Although we didn’t see much close racing between Hamilton and Verstappen in 2022 because of the Mercedes’ pace. However, we did see a glimpse in Brazil where the two again came together damaging their cars.
‘This can very quickly be received as criticism’ – Verstappen
In a recent interview, Max Verstappen talked about how he is careful when talking about Lewis Hamilton as he thinks his comments will be taken as criticism even if they are not intended to be by the extremely toxic online platforms:
“In England, this can very quickly be received as criticism,”
Verstappen said.
“And then I’m being called out on it.”
“I always respect Lewis a lot for what he has achieved in the sport, but that’s why I don’t really understand why we cannot really race like I’ve been doing with the others.”
“Of course, everyone is different in their approach. I know that Charles is a bit different to George, or to Carlos [Sainz] or to Checo [Perez], or whoever.”
“I do have to be a little bit more careful with that because immediately it’s really taken as criticism. And then people start to hate on you. Well, that’s not my intention.”
The duo (Hamilton and Verstappen) is arguably the best drivers currently on the grid. Both drivers without a doubt have mutual respect. What we as media need to do is avoid spreading hatred against any one of them and present facts as it is.
Looking at the 2022 season, Max Verstappen is in the form of his life. It will be interesting to see how red bull and Max Verstappen come back to defend their titles in 2023.
