Michael Owen feels Liverpool targeting ‘exceptional’ replacement of Salah

Former Liverpool star Michael Owen says Liverpool are targeting an ‘exceptional’ alternative for Mo Salah. Owen hints it for Bayern Munich ace midfielder Jamal Musiala. The German international recently scored and assisted against Galatasaray in the Champions League. Moreover, according to German reporter Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool see Musiala capable of fitting in the shoes of Mo Salah. Speaking to TNT Sport, Owen said,

“I think he is exceptional, really exceptional. Its such a shame he chose Germany over England!”

I thought he was brilliant in the last major tournament (the 2022 Qatar World Cup). There’s lots of people comparing him to Bellingham but I think he is a different type of player. He’s a brilliant runner with the ball. I think he is unbelievable when it comes to dribbling.

“I mean, he’s got the lot this lad.”

However, he finds himself in and out of Tuchel’s starting XI frequently. Fabrizio Romano also told Caught Offside that there has been little movement on a contract extension.

“His contract is due to expire in 2026. And at the moment it’s true that there is no agreement with Bayern over a new deal,” Romano explains.

“Why? Because at the moment the plans to discuss a new contract were with Bayern’s old management – the likes of Oliver Kahn, who recently left the club – they were preparing a new contract proposal for Musiala, and then the management changed.

“Now there are new people in charge at Bayern, so the timing of the contract talks changed, and there are still no talks because of this change at the top of the club. Still, for Bayern it is an absolute priority to keep Musiala, because they know there will be interested clubs.”
