Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta felt convinced that Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount would join Gunners in this transfer window.

Mount have secured a move to Manchester United this summer after Arteta though he would join them. Red Devils paid £55 million plus add-ons.

According to the Nacional, Manchester United knew that they would Mount after speaking to him. United felt that the midfielder was keen to join them and now they have secured confirmation arriving this summer.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal were desperate to bring him this summer, but the England International joined the Red Devils and took the iconic number ‘7’ shirt. The Nacional also claimed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wanted to bring Mount to Anfield but the biggest interest came from Arsenal and Mikel Arteta.

Arteta is great admirer of Mount and he actually thought that the Chelsea man would be signing for Arsenal. The Spaniard had a belief that the 24-year-old would want to stay in London having spent most his time there.

But Mount had some other plans and is trying something different by joining Manchester United. Arsenal knew about Mount’s decision and went for Kai Havertz instead.

Arsenal wanted to sign Mount because he is hardworking, technically sound and can make a impact in the final third. Havertz isn’t a consolation prize though and Arsenal will be very happy to sign him.

Signing both Havertz and Mount would have been hugely exciting for Arsenal. But Gunners have signed their long-term target Declan Rice and they’ll will be quite excited for start of a new season.
