Mikel Arteta wants Emile Smith-Rowe to stay at Arsenal

Manager Mikel Arteta wants midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe to stay at the Emirates beyond the end of this summer transfer window.

Gunners are experiencing one of their best transfer windows in recent times. German international Kai Havertz have already joined them and while deal for Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber have reportedly been agreed.

William Saliba and Reiss Nelson have also signed new contracts this summer. And now Charles Watts claims that Arteta have no intentions in letting Smith-Rowe leave in this transfer.

Smith-Rowe has struggled with form last season at the Emirates. The 22-year-old has been quite injury-prone. However, he scored a brilliant in U-21 European Championship against Israel.

Due to fatigue last season, he was limited to 200 minutes of football across all competitions. Due to which at the start of the summer transfer window, he was rumoured to be departed from the club.

Speaking on TeamTalk, Watts stated that the Spaniard is not willing to sell Smith-Rowe and he conveyed his message to the player in a private conversation. He said :-

“He’s certainly not on the Arsenal scrapheap. Mikel Arteta has told him that he wants him to stay.

“I think going into the summer, I thought there was a good chance he could probably go… But by all accounts, they want him to stay and are going to give him an opportunity, which I’m really happy with.”

Smith-Rowe is one of the most exciting talents in England right now. He has huge potentiality and has the ability to become world-class in future.
