Mushfiqur Rahim ruled out of the Super Four clash between India and Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023. India to face Bangladesh on September 15th.

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will be missing the game against India on Friday in Colombo, Sri Lanka. As per the reports, the BCB has availed paternity leave to the cricketer. Moreover, the cricketer’s wife is still recovering after the birth of the baby. Hence, he needs to be with the family at this time.

BCB chairman Jalal Yunus stated

“Mushfiqur has informed us that his wife is still recovering (after giving birth), and he needs to be by her side and with their children at this time. We fully understand his situation and have decided to permit him to skip the game”

Mushfiqur Rahim’s absence came as a shock to the team. The team batting was counting on the former captain of Bangladesh in this season of Asia Cup. He has made 131 runs in four innings with an average of 32.75. In addition, his best was 64 off 84 deliveries, against Pakistan. Moreover, he is one of the top run scorers of Bangladesh. He was on the third number of the top run scorer’s list behind Shanto and Mehndi.

This edition of the Asia Cup hasn’t been a memorable tournament for the Bangladesh team. In the group stage match against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh had put the lowest total of 164 on the board. However, in the second match against Afghanistan, they put in a massive total of 334 runs, which eventually helped them to qualify for the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup.

In the super 4 stage, While playing against Pakistan, they faced defeat by seven wickets, and against Sri Lanka, they lost by 21 runs.
