According to several reports, Naby Keita will not sign a contract extension with Liverpool until he is given more game time this season. Liverpool have been on a mission to secure the future of some their stars including Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Jordan Henderson. While the reds are also planned to extender the midfielder Naby Keita’s contract which expires in 2023. But a game-time block seems to hit in the road.
Naby Keita made it to the top list playing for RB Leipzig from 2016-18, in which he appeared 71 times, scoring 17 goals and 15 assists. Following Keita’s talent in the midfield, Liverpool signed for a price of 48 million in 2018.
However, since his arrival at Liverpool, the midfielder has failed to impress with his performances, following which he failed down the orders. While Georginio Wijnaldum’s repetitive good performances made Keita’s life more difficult. But Wijnaldum has left the reds this summer and Naby Kieta has an opportunity to get a regular place.
Will Naby Keita stay at Liverpool?
While Liverpool have also planned to keep Naby Keita in the future as they want to offer him a contract extension. But as per the latest reports, the midfielder is not ready to commit his future with the reds until he gets a decent game time. This season, Keita has started in 6 games for Liverpool and scored 1 goal in those appearances.
However, Naby Keita is currently out of the team due to injury and will be missing a couple of games. So, now it seems if Liverpool wants Naby Keita to sign a new contract then he has to be given his desired role. Following which it seems he may sign a new contract before the end of the season.
