Nkunku update- Chelsea manager says he will not start against Wolves

Pochettino

Chelsea will lock horns with Wolves in the Premier League this weekend. However, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says Nkunku will not start against Wolves. The Blues will make a trip to Molineux Stadium on the eve of Christmas. It is for sure that the travelling fans will be desperate to see their 26-year old star featuring in the fixture. Christopher Nkunku is yet to make his Premier League debut since his signing in summer transfer. Though, he came on a substitute against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

However, the manager has stated that he will be on the bench for the match. He said in his pre-match press conference that it will take some time for the Frenchman to get into his full fitness. Speaking to Chelsea’s official YouTube account, he says,

“We need to patient, we need to give time. We need to provide him the capacity for him to find his best form.

To play from the beginning, I don’t know, I think it’s too early to see him start the game. Next few weeks, game we’ll consider him in the starting XI, but not at the moment.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jamie Redknapp also said he didn’t see the forward at his best against Newcastle. Perhaps it will take some time for him to get back to his best after a long injury spell. While Nkunku will get to his full pace with cameos, it will also increase competition in the squad for the position. Pochettino will be going to have a bit of headache about his best forward lineup in the upcoming weeks.
