No hurdle for de Vries to join F1 after the Italian GP?

Nyck de Vries

Nyck de Vries is all set for a Formula 1 seat after showing an incredible performance at the Italian GP.

Dutch racing driver Tom Coronel has indicated that an empty F1 seat would be more than enough for de Vries to get out of any contract if he has one for the next year.

At the moment, De Vries doesn’t have any contract for the next year. He left the Mercedes EQ Formula E team after this 2022 season.

De Vries won the 2021 Formula E Championship with the team.

Recently, at the Italian Grand Prix, an opportunity came knocking at De Vries’ door. The 27-year-old was called to sub-Alex Albon who had suffered appendicitis just hours before the Final Practice on Saturday.

De Vries showcased immense talent, outqualifying Nicholas Latifi and finishing P8 at the main race in the Italian GP at Monza!

The Dutchman secured two points on his debut that too in a Williams.

This made every F1 fan wish to see De Vries on the grid in 2023 in place of Latifi.

De Vries deserve an F1 seat for 2023

Tom Coronel also wishes De Vries to join Formula 1 and sees no obstacles if a seat really arises:

“This guy was made to race, he has devoted his whole life to it. And he will continue to do so for the rest of his life,”

he told Viaplay.

“He already has very good deals in his pocket for next year, but I’m sure there’s an option in there that says, ‘if I get a Formula 1 seat…’”

Coronel also defended Nyck’s 27-age tag saying that it should not hinder his skills and talent.

“You shouldn’t look at the age, that age is just an extra because of all the experience he brings with him. As a result, he makes fewer mistakes,”

he explained.

“All the critics have been shouting for years that he couldn’t do this, but you have to remember the 2018 Formula 2 Championship.

“George Russell was champion, Lando Norris was second, Alexander Albon third and De Vries fourth. In the last few races, he had engine problems.

“Otherwise, he would have easily finished second in that championship, Nyck just belongs in Formula 1.”

De Vries is being linked with Nicholas Latifi’s seat at Williams. The Candian is having a terrible season as being the only pointless driver so far. Furthermore, his contract with Williams expires at the end of the current season.
