Recent report by Evening Standard suggests that Chelsea have no plans to part ways with Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. The duo are set to continue at Stamford Bridge until next summer.

Thomas Tuchel will not be entertaining any plans regarding the transfer of the duo. The German manager believes that the players are integral parts of his team. This suggests that Tuchel’s future plans involve the contributions from both players.

However, the players are currently struggling with inconsistent injuries. Hence, they are forced to just making fleeting appearances and as a result were in contention for a move out of the West London outfit.

Raising questions at Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech’s stay at Chelsea

Since joining the club in 2020, the pair have been subject to a lot of criticism. While Werner is often questioned over his finishing, Ziyech has been unlucky with injuries. As a result, both Champions League winners have faced a shortage of game time this season, even though Chelsea face a shortage of fit players.

In 14 appearances across all competitions this season, Werner has 5 goals and 2 assists. The former RB Leipzig star, who bagged 28 league goals and 8 assists in his last season with the Bundesliga side, has missed his mark ever since. Even though the German had 12 assists in the Premier League last season with the Blues, he only netted the ball 6 times. (stats via TRANSFERMARKT)

On the other hand, Ziyech has been struck highly with injuries. The player made most of his appearances last season as a substitute. In 39 appearances across all competitions, the player only had 1,900 minutes of playing time, with 6 goals and 4 assists. This season has been a bit better considering the Moroccan already has 7 goal involvements in 18 appearances across all competitions. (stats via TRANSFERMARKT)

Chelsea’s current transfer situation

The London Giants’ current transfer situation is quite shaky and unpredictable. Earlier this month, Tuchel stated that he does not expect to make new signings in January. The manager could however, sell either of Werner or Ziyech next summer.

Meanwhile, the future of some defenders remain a doubt, with their contracts running out. Chelsea expect Andreas Christensen to sign a new deal. Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta are likely to be given one-year extensions. However, Antonio Rudiger seems to be ready to walk away as a free agent in the summer.

On the contrary, the club seems to be ready to offload Malang Sarr and Ross Barkley in the upcoming transfer window.
