Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola provides latest update on the injury pf Manuel Akanji. Pep was forced to substitute Akanji during the match against Huddersfield. The Sky Blues are also plagued with injuries surrounding Europe this season so far. There have been many absentees from the first team members of the squad. Through out this 2023/24 campaign John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne, Haaland, Doku, Kovacic and few others are sidelined.
Recently, Swiss international Manuel Akanji was also forced to leave the field in pain. It was during the FA Cup clash last weekend against Huddersfield adding to the list of injuries. Pep was speaking before the Newcastle clash and said,
“Yeah, Manuel Akanji as well is injured. Manu as well, yeah he had an action against Huddersfield, he’ll be some weeks out, few weeks. I don’t know about the FA Cup against Spurs, or Burnley, if he’ll be ready.
Now we are lucky that we don’t have games in the next 10 days, after tomorrow’s game against Newcastle, but we will see in Abu Dhabi with a good weather how they feel.”
Manchester City have closed the gap with Liverpool at the top by two points after their win. The treble winners had a comfortable win by a 4-2 in their outing. The return of Kevin De Bruyne in the Premier League was marked by a goal and assist by him. After the showdown at St. James’s Park on Saturday, Manchester City will head to Abu Dhabi for warm-weather training. They will return to action on January 26 with an FA Cup fourth round tie against Tottenham Hotspur.
