Picking Dinesh Karthik only as a finisher doesn’t seem quite right: Ex-Indian pacer

tennis player

There is a lot of debate regarding Dinesh Karthik’s coming back. he had his best Indian Premier League season this year for Royal Challengers Bangalore. After that, he got a place in India’s T20s. Ever since his return, he has played 13 attempts for India. But he has played only 3 impactful innings – two against South Africa and once against West Indies. We have witnessed Axar Patel playing before Dinesh Karthik. He’s not the first-choice wicketkeeper, he doesn’t contribute with the ball. It seems like he’s in the team only to finish the match. With these facts in mind, there are a lot of debates happening around him and his selection.

Vivek Razdan talks about Dinesh Karthik

“Picking Dinesh Karthik only as a finisher doesn’t seem quite right to me. You are blocking a spot for Dinesh Karthik. You tell me who among Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Deepak Hooda, and Hardik Pandya can’t do that job of a finisher?”

Whereas Dinesh Karthik has been extra assured than ever. He is aware of he has the backing of head coach Rahul Dravid and the skipper Rohit Sharma to do whatever he has been doing.

“Finisher’s role is one such that it is hard to be consistent. Every time you get in, you should be able to make an impact that will help the team. It works both ways, the bowlers are clever and they try to force you to hit into the wind as much as possible. That makes it all the more tougher”
