Red bull boss highlights an unexpected threat to the top three

Ferrari 2023

Red bull boss Christian Horner has warned the F1 top three of a surprising challenge this season.

Christian Horner has named teams that he expects to get out of the midfield and challenge the ‘top three’.

Although the 2022 technical regulations were aimed to provide a more leveled playing field there was a clear gap formed yet again. Although the order might have changed, the top three which include Red bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes eventually were clear of the rest of the grid. This can be seen with Alpine finishing P4 with a huge gap compared to Mercedes in P3.

Christian Horner was in an interview with Auto Motor Und Sport. The Briton was asked a question if he expects another team to join the ‘top three’ or challenge at least. To this, the Red bull boss pondered over Alpine before giving a surprising candidate in the Aston Martin F1 team:

“You never know, Alpine made progress in the second half of the year,”

“Aston Martin… we keep hearing big numbers coming out of their expectations, so you just don’t know what the running order will be. McLaren might even get it together this year.

“Inevitably the grid should, with stable regulations, start to close up.”

Horner also provided his assessment for the frontrunners of the 2023 season:

“Of course, Ferrari had a very good car last year, they’re going to come out fighting hard this year.

“Mercedes I’m sure will recover from the annus horribilis last year. So let’s see, the competitors are going to be very strong.”
