Rio Ferdinand backs Rival Striker to perform well this season

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand backs Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez to deliver in this upcoming campaign.

The Uruguayan joined the Mersyside club last summer from Benfica FC. Nunez has been pretty average last season and he came under lot of scrutiny.

His £85 million price-tag has been the main focal point of criticism. However, Nunez scored 15 goals across all competitions last term.

Ferdinand backs the striker to overcome all the odds this season and said :-

“I think the price tag is out of his hands. I look at it a bit like Darwin Nunez from Liverpool. Last season was his adjusting season. He’s a young striker coming to the league and everything about him fits the Premier League perfectly, but it didn’t go as well as he would have liked. But I think, this season, we’ll see a different player for Liverpool.”

Ferdinand compares United new signee with Nunez

Rio Ferdinand compares Manchester United new signing Rasmus Hojlund with Nunez. The Danish international joined Red Devils from Atalanta FC for £75 million.

Hojlund comes with lot of reputation and Ferdinand backs his potentiality :-

“The first thing you’ve got to look at is there’s huge potential. Anyone who has seen him play will see there are attributes there that you would like. He’s suited to the Premier League.”

Just like Nunez, Hojlund might need some time to adjust in Premier League. The former Three Lions defender said :-

“I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens with Hojlund (fails to score much like Nunez), although I’d like him to have a better season than that. He may well do, but it will take time to adjust. The attributes are there, but you’re going to be paying big.”

Nunez have enjoyed a terrific pre-season this term as he scored four goals and provided one assist in 4 friendlies. He will be have huge opportunity to shut all the critics for one’s and all in this campaign.
