Rio Ferdinand has given an enthusiastic judgment on Chelsea’s Reece James naming him as PL’s young player of the season. Though, James has been suffering from injuries that have kept him out of the team for long spells. Still when he has played he has been absolutely brilliant.

His development from Chelsea’s academy has been scintillating. He has broken into the first team in no time and has been trusted by his manager to play in both full back and centre back positions. Though, his traditional role is right back in which he plays the best.

He played only 22 games in the Premier League this season. However, he still has five goals and six assists under his belt- some of the goals being a belter. James has grown leaps and bounds as a player in recent years. Moreover, there are reports that he could be extending his contract with the Blues.

For the performances he is delivering for Chelsea- he is growing in confidence as well. He is quick, physically strong and fits very well within Thomas Tuchel’s playing setup.

What Rio Ferdinand had to say about James?

Ferdinand said, “I’m going to go Reece James [for Premier League young player of the season]. I just think the importance that he has in this team, when he doesn’t play in that team now they miss him massively. He has a massive impact in that team.”

“I watched him at Old Trafford the other day… he was treating some Man United players like boys. That’s how good he is, how comfortable he looks now. “I’ve seen him on loan at Wigan playing centre-back, playing in midfield. He’s so versatile. His passing range is off the charts.”

“Just his all-round general play, the composure, the physicality, his defending one-v-one. I think he’s got everything.” Therefore, we could very well understand that Ferdinand was full of praise for the youngster.
