India made a comeback in this edition of the World Cup. Last year India were knocked out early from the tournament. But this year India managed to qualify for the semi-finals quite easily. India played its last match against Zimbabwe and secured the first position in the group. India will face England in the semi-final encounter. Many players were in form and some were criticized. Former Indian player, Akash Chopra pointed out that if skippers like Temba Bavuma and Babar Azam can be criticized for poor t20 world cup then why not Rohit Sharma?

Akash Chopra on Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma did not have a good t20 World Cup with the bat so far. He set his standard so up that everyone expects a big score from him. He scored one fifty so far in this tournament. He got a good start in a few matches but failed to convert it into big scores. He is the opener as well. So it is expected to take off some pressure from the middle order. His low patches increase pressure on the incoming batsman.

Statements:

“The runs did not come from Rohit Sharma’s bat once again. Let’s not fool ourselves. We are all Indian fans, when we talk about Babar and Temba not scoring runs, we should also say that Rohit is not making runs. He has scored one fifty in five matches, that too was a scratchy fifty, where a catch was dropped as well, and it was a fifty against the Netherlands. Here also you got out, trying to pull a short ball, a fielder was standing in the deep, that’s a problem. This weakness is going to be exposed slightly. You have not played Yuzi Chahal and will not be able to play him as well. If you don’t play him, how will you stop England on a flat pitch when the square boundaries will be short?”
