Roma have reportedly shown their interest in signing Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira this summer.

The Uruguay international fell out of favour under Mikel Arteta during the 2019-20 Premier League season. He was moving out on loan to Atletico Madrid, where his fortunes did not improve either.

In La Liga, he started in only three games for Atletico Madrid, under Diego Simeone. He is strongly thinking to go to South America with Boca Juniors following the death of his mother.

However, the former Sampdoria man can return to the Italian football league, Serie A.  Calciomercato now claims that Roma’s new boss Jose Mourinho is very keen and excited to bring Torreira to Italy.

Will Lucas Torreira leave Arsenal?

The possibility of Torreira leaving Arsenal this summer is high.

However, Relations between Arsenal and Roma are not good. Though, with the two clubs locked in talks over Granit Xhaka before a move broke down due to Roma’s reluctance to pay the Gunners’ £20m asking price.

The midfielder,Torreira, has can also be moving to Lazio and Fiorentina. He has a two year contract left at the Emirates. The Uruguayan has scored four goals and registered six assists in his 89 outings with Arsenal.

Despite his troubles, the 25-year-old was selected in Uruguay’s squad for the Copa America. He featured in three group matches before his side’s quarter-final exit against Colombia.

“A year ago I had been working with a psychologist in Spain because when in the second year at Arsenal I played very little. It was hard for me to really assimilate because my life depends on football and when I don’t play I have a very bad time, I am in a very bad mood and many things happen. That’s why I started with him and he was giving me a hand with that topic,” Torreira told the Metro.
