Sergio Perez sent a strong message to everyone in the F1 community stopping his home crowd from booing Lewis Hamilton.

The 2022 Mexican GP was arguably one of the most boring races of the season. After 1st lap switching of positions in the top 5, there were no overtakes, attacks, or even close racing for the remainder of the race in the top 5.

Sergio Perez qualified in P4 and zoomed past George Russell in P3 in the second straight on the opening lap. Sergio Perez then chased Lewis Hamilton for most of the race but just couldn’t produce enough pace to snatch that second step on the podium.

Home fans were delighted to see Checo on the podium once again. However, the fans didn’t seem pleased to see Hamilton stop the home hero to get that second position. Perez came within 1 second on a couple of occasions but still was denied by Hamilton.

After the race, when Hamilton came to give his interview but was booed by the fans in the grandstands. Nevertheless, Hamilton praised the atmosphere while giving his interview after the race:

“This has been an amazing crowd, a bit awkward this time round, boos all day, but nevertheless I have so much love for Mexico and the people here,”

said Hamilton after finishing second behind Verstappen.

Nevertheless, Perez showed true sportsmanship waving the finger to his home crowd to stop the booing. Everyone in the F1 community were pleased and delighted by this wonderful move by Checo.

We as fans of Formula 1 need to respect every driver and need to ensure that the sport stays free from hate and toxicity. We as a community need to develop mutual respect for everyone.
