The United star wanted Luis Enrique to replace Solskjaer and Manchester United finally considering it

Cristiano Ronaldo wanted Luis Enrique to replace the departing manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, United went ahead to appoint Ralf Rangnick as the interim manager. United do have to appoint a permanent manager as soon as possible and there have quite a few names linked with the job. Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino are the prime candidates.

Manchester United are now also considering Luis Enrique for the job. Nevertheless, that seems unlikely as Enrique remains committed to Spain’s national team job with the World Cup just around the corner. He still remains one of the favorites targets as reports say that he is very respected within the United camp. United have already interviewed Erik ten Hag but they are willing to search for more.

Luis Enrique has also improved the Spain side to what it was in the 2018 World Cup. He is known because of his excellent spell with Barcelona. The Spanish giants did not want to part ways with Enrique but he wanted to spend more time with his daughter and resigned from the job. He was the last manager who helped Barcelona win the Champions League.

It is understandable why Ronaldo wants Enrique to coach his side. Moreover, it will also be easier for United to lure him away from his international job since it will cost less than luring other managers. However, the chances are very slim considering that Luis Enrique does not want to leave the Spain job and wants to guide them in the World Cup.

Why Cristiano Ronaldo wants Manchester United to appoint Luis Enrique?

Luis Enrique has won the treble with Barcelona in the 2014/15 season. He has experience managing big names and that is certainly a requirement while managing the current United side. The Spaniard plays a very attacking kind of football and likes to have control of the game. He likes to have a numerical advantage over the opponents and also likes to include the goalkeeper in the buildup.

Luis Enrique prefers starting Unai Simon over David de Gea because of his ability to play with the ball at his feet. Simon is a good passer of the ball and also allows Spain an extra man while under pressure. Enrique likes to stretch the pitch with his wide forwards and the current Spain squad plays more vertical football than his Barcelona side did.

It is likely that Enrique will implement a similar approach to his Spain side to United also. It is because United does not have players who understand the positional play, as well as the players in the 2015 Barcelona side, did. Enrique is also very good at counters which is United’s forte. However, he will also bring control and hold over the game

Luis Enrique is not afraid to make the big calls and similarly, his players do not shy away from taking risks. On the other hand, United players are not comfortable taking risks. When United players try taking risks they fail most of the time. Therefore, Luis Enrique could also teach them when to take risks while also helping Cristiano Ronaldo to score more goals.
